There are no other programs across the nation offering an Early Intervention Program (EIP) for developmentally delayed infants, prenatal to age 1 year. Assistance League of Laguna Beach stepped into that space over 37 years ago, when a need was recognized for parents with babies born with special needs. There were no state agencies offering services to families with developmentally delayed infants until the babies were at least one year old.
Last year we touched approximately 185 lives, educating parents on how to exercise, stimulate, guide, play and care for their babies. We are the only program available for these youngest developmentally delayed and special needs babies, and parents come from all over Orange County, Riverside County, Los Angeles County, and as far as Indio to attend EIP. There is no fee or cost to the families participating in EIP.
Assistance League of Laguna Beach funds the program through proceeds from the Assistance League of Laguna Beach Thrift shop, and from grants and cash donations.
In existence since 1976, the Early Intervention Program of Laguna Beach is a collaborative program with Assistance League of Laguna Beach and the Intervention Center for Early Childhood. The Early Intervention Program is designed to provide group-based therapy for developmentally delayed infants from birth to one year.
We believe that parent participation is the key to success in providing early intervention services. Therefore, we provide parents with the “hands-on” experience to guide them in furthering their child’s developmental opportunities. Our professional staff of occupational and physical therapists, developmental teachers and behavioral specialists make specific recommendations for each child to ensure his or her optimal development.
Professional EIP staff develop includes:
Gross Motor skills
Sensory Motor skills
Fine Motor skills
Feeding and Eating skills
Social and Emotional behaviors
A parent support group follows each session and is facilitated by a Marriage and Family Therapist who assists parents in discussing the issues involved in parenting and caring for a child with special needs.
The Early Intervention Program meets on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in Laguna Beach.
