The Assistance League Laguna Beach has been active for over 55 years, supporting the local community and individuals with special needs. Our unique program for developmentally delayed babies (EIP Early Intervention Program) is a focal point for us, as we put caring and commitment into action to provide therapists, counselors and other assistance to these special babies and their families. We celebrated 40 years of the Early Intervention Program in 2017.
We received the Community Partner Award from the Down Syndrome Association of Orange County.
For seven (7) Saturday mornings in April-May, 2017 we opened the EIP rooms for use by the Young Athletes Program of the Special Olympics, and participated in ‘Born this Way’ filming of the Special Olympics at our facility. Most of the Special Olympics participants were recent EIP graduates.
We provided $35,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Laguna Beach High School for university, college, community college and technical school further education.
Helping Military Families with technology equipment allowed special needs students at Camp Pendleton San Onofre School to join their peers in STEM classes. Over 2400 diapers were delivered to Camp Pendleton families.
Our Therapeutic Riding Program supports children that can benefit from hippotherapy. Did you know that children with trouble walking can learn to sit up and ride?
The Assistance League Laguna Beach worked with the local Laguna Community Medical Clinic to provide essential medical equipment to enable technicians to identify troubled pregnancies and other early detections.
Our Caps for a Cause program provides hand made caps to special infants in the NICU, to patients undergoing therapies and others.
Operation School Bell provided new backpacks, shoe vouchers, new clothing, hygiene kits and school supplies for children with the Even Start Boys and Girls Club.
Operation School Bell also supported teens in crisis with comfort and welcome packages, books , journals, crafts and more.
Life Skills Learning opportunities take place in the Assistance League’s chapter house kitchen that is made available for cooking lessons, and employment opportunities for special needs high school students are available in our Thrift and Gift Shop.
The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation selected Assistance League Laguna Beach as the 2017 Honoree for its extraordinary efforts, longevity and diversity of service for supporting children with special needs, families in need, military families, senior citizens and underserved populations in surrounding communities.

WHO is Walter Proger?
An artist, a horticulturist, a friend, a supporter of the Assistance League of Laguna Beach, and the gentleman who has so artfully turned the front yard of the Assistance League of Laguna Chapter House into a beautiful oasis of flowering succulents, aromatic shrubs, beautiful plants and color. Be sure and take a look at this beautiful landscaping with winding paths and thoughtful plant groupings at our next Chapter House meeting.
