Our current Laguna membership includes over 160 members interested in working together in a voluntary commitment to community service.
On May 31, 2017 the Assistance League of Laguna Beach welcomed in a new Board to guide the activities and business of running a fully volunteer organization of 160 members who put caring and commitment into action through its’ many philanthropies supporting the local community. Carrie L. Joyce was installed as the new President. Pictured below are the new members of the 2017-2018 Board: Judy Soulakis, Cheryl Spetrino, Shannon O’Toole, Kathleen Hardcastle, Mary Blum, Jacinta Loewen, Judy Upton, Carrie Joyce and Diane Fanelli. Each Board member brings a unique and valuable skill and talent to the Assistance League of Laguna Beach.
We wish to offer a heartfelt thank you to the departing Board members for all their wise guidance, steering and efforts in making the Assistance League of Laguna Beach the wonderful and successful organization that it is! On May 1, 2017 Gayle Whitaker was honored as the departing President of the Assistance League Laguna Beach at a luncheon held at ‘The Ranch’ in Laguna Beach. Gayle is pictured with her parting gifts, suburban gardening tools and hat, and jewelry of course, as she is moving to Ojai to a beautiful new home with extensive gardens, roses and even some grape vines! Gayle will always be remembered for her gracious smile, sparkling eyes, and willingness to jump into any project, anytime, anyplace to support Assistance League Laguna Beach’s many functions and philanthropies. And for her skills in maneuvering a large enclosed truck filled with diapers which she drove down to Camp Pendleton several times a year to distribute to military families. She is truly a ‘gentle-person’, of whom we are proud to have had as our President for the last two years, always representing Assistance League Laguna Beach with grace, intelligence and heart-felt warmth for all that we do!
At present we sponsor a number of philanthropic programs, including an Early Intervention Program for families of developmentally delayed infants, which has been active since 1976. Assistance League of Laguna Beach pays for the professional EIP staff of occupational and physical therapists, developmental teachers and behavioral specialists to develop the following:
Gross Motor skills
Sensory Motor skills
Fine Motor skills
Feeding and Eating skills
Social and Emotional behaviors
Early Intervention Program is provided free of charge to families participating in the program. Traditionally, the majority of our philanthropic efforts are directed towards children, families in need, military families and senior citizens. Ongoing evaluation helps insure that our projects remain in tune with current community needs and the interests of our members. Funds to operate Assistance League of Laguna Beach come from a wonderful Thrift Shop, located at 526 Glenneyre Street, downtown Laguna, where donations of gently used clothing, shoes, household items, toys, sports equipment and small furniture are repurposed and sold. Donations of bequeaths, cash donations and grants are gratefully accepted and are tax-deductible. National Assistance of League was founded in 1935 in California, and the Laguna Beach chapter was founded by a group of fourteen initial members in 1952, known as the Las Amigas Guild. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonsectarian, and nonpolitical corporation, run by volunteers. We are a volunteer service organization whose members identify, develop, implement, and fund ongoing local philanthropic programs for specific needs of the community.Assistance League of Laguna Beach is a trusted nonprofit, and a Gold Participant recognized by Guide Star.
